The S&P 500’s forward earnings yield has converged with the 10-year Treasury yield, compressing the equity risk premium to near zero. Meanwhile, rising yields have turned duration into a source of loss rather than diversification, and a Fed caught between sticky inflation and slowing growth adds another layer of uncertainty. When neither asset class offers a reliable risk offset, portfolio construction needs a different tool.
Swan Global Investments will discuss how an actively managed equity hedge, available in an ETF or SMA, seeks to mitigate downside risk while preserving uncapped equity participation.

Prior to joining Swan, Odo was Director of Research for 11 years at Zephyr Associates, a leading provider of investment analysis software. He was responsible for developing next generation risk analytics. Prior to that he was a portfolio manager with Accessor Capital Management, a mutual fund company; and part of the investment analytics team at Pacific Portfolio Consulting, an RIA catering to high net worth individuals and ERISA plans. In both positions, Odo was the resident Zephyr expert. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1996.

Rob Swan manages and implements the Swan Defined Risk Strategy as Portfolio Manager, including investment management and trading as well as development and maintenance of proprietary technology, enabling Swan to scale and execute the DRS across multiple platforms and thousands of accounts. He also provides daily oversight of Swan operations as COO. Rob’s earlier career has ranged from flight-test engineering and computer aided design software development at the Boeing Company, to director of operations and part owner of a leading web service automation provider. His analytical, technical, and computing skills have been developed and applied since 1988 in production software development, computer automation, process design and standardization, business and technical process modeling, and aerodynamics engineering.
